Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven Skillet Lid Spacer Riser Black PETG Storage
Cast Iron Lid Spacers for Lodge Dutch Ovens and Skillets — , Black PETG
Six spacers — two lids at three apiece. They hold the lid open a quarter inch so stored cast iron can breathe.
Measured Dimensions
- Lid gap held open: 6.35 mm — a dead-round quarter inch
- Contact angle: 20.0° from vertical, on both prongs
- Prongs: 6.74 mm wide each, separated by about 7.0 mm
- Overall spacer: 44.6 mm tall, 29.3 mm wide, 6.35 mm thick
Taken off the actual model geometry rather than estimated from a photo. The original was drawn in inches, which is why the thickness lands exactly on a quarter inch.

Why Stored Cast Iron Goes Rancid
Seasoning is polymerised oil, and a lid clamped down on a cold pan seals whatever is left inside it — a film of oil, and whatever moisture came off the last wash. With no air moving through, that oil oxidises instead of curing. You open the pot weeks later and it smells like old fat, and the fix is not a wipe down: it is scrubbing the seasoning back off and starting again. Trapped damp will also put rust on a bare interior.
The person who designed this spacer did exactly that to a Lodge Dutch oven, re-seasoned it, and then built these so it would not happen twice. A quarter inch of air is the whole fix.
Compatible Models
Lodge bare cast iron Dutch ovens and skillets — confirmed by the designer on the 10" skillet, 12" skillet and 7-quart Dutch oven, which all share the same wall angle. Because the spacer works off that 20° wall rather than a pot diameter, it is not tied to one size. Other brands of bare cast iron often slope similarly and will work, but the angle is not standardised across makers, so test one spacer first if your piece is not a Lodge.
