Why This Knob Breaks

The stock knob grips the control shaft at a single flat "D" face molded into thin plastic. Repeated twisting to change speed or oscillation fatigues that flat until the knob cracks or the gripping face wears smooth and stops turning the shaft at all. Once it's gone, the fan has no way to be adjusted — and most fan makers don't sell the knob on its own, only a whole replacement fan.
