Why This Latch Breaks

The latch is a small snap-fit plastic catch that gets flexed every single time the dust canister is opened, emptied and clicked back on. It is one of the few parts on the vacuum that is loaded and released hundreds of times a year, and thin snap features fatigue and eventually crack. Once it lets go the canister will not stay latched, which takes an otherwise working vacuum out of service. The original design is published as a PLA print; we print ours in PETG at high infill instead, because PETG flexes rather than snapping cleanly and holds up far better in a part whose whole job is to bend and spring back.
