Why This Latch Breaks

The hood latch flexes every time the main body is opened to change the bag or clear a clog, and that repeated flex is exactly what a thin molded clip eventually cracks under — the original this design was copied from failed after about 12 years of normal use. Once it's gone, the hood won't stay locked shut during normal use. Rowenta doesn't sell this clip on its own, so a cracked latch otherwise means replacing parts assemblies you don't need on a vacuum that's still running fine everywhere else.
