Why This Knob Breaks
It is a small plastic knob pressed onto a thin metal lever that gets worked through its full travel every time the mixer runs. The plastic splits at the socket and the knob drops off, leaving a bare metal lever that still changes speed but is awkward and sharp to use. Nothing mechanical or electrical has failed at that point, which is why a knob is the whole repair.
Compatible Models
KitchenAid Artisan tilt-head stand mixers, speed selection lever. Fit is set by the lever blade and not by the badge on the mixer, so the 2.10 mm thickness above is a better guide than any model list. This knob is sized differently from the other common KitchenAid knobs: it will not fit the large 3/16" lever used on many Classic-style mixers, the small 1/8" lever, or the Professional 600 bowl-lift, whose speed lever is too thick to enter this socket. If your lever measures thicker than 2.10 mm, this is the wrong part.
