Why This Latch Breaks

The wand release tab takes a hard squeeze every time you unlock the wand to switch from floor cleaning to the hose or upholstery tools, and it's a thin, flexing snap-fit feature that was never built for that much repeated stress. Once it cracks, the wand either won't release or won't lock back onto the body, which takes the whole upright out of service over one small plastic tab. Dirt Devil doesn't sell this clip on its own — the only OEM option on the resale market is a used take-off part running $12-13 shipped, more than it costs to print a new one.
