Why This Latch Breaks

The body locking latch takes a flex every single time the mop is opened and closed to empty or refill, and that repeated flex is exactly what a thin molded-plastic latch eventually cracks under. Once it goes, the body won't stay closed and latched during normal use. Bissell doesn't sell the bare latch on its own — the official fix is either a full replacement-part bundle or the entire mop — so a cracked latch otherwise means paying for parts you don't need on a machine that is still working fine everywhere else.
