Why This Hinge Breaks

• The WH-1000XM6 uses two thin plastic support rings inside the hinge mechanism that allow the headphones to fold and adjust. Despite Sony's attempt to improve on the XM5 design, these rings flex under normal use and crack — often within weeks of purchase. Sony's own service policy for this issue is product exchange, not repair. Sony has not made individual hinge parts available for purchase. This printed PETG clamp reinforcement wraps around the cracked rings from the outside, clamping them securely in place using two small M2 bolts. Headphone functionality is completely restored with no permanent modifications to the originals.
