When the tab snaps off, the hose partially dislodges from its seat — causing a significant loss of suction as air bypasses the hose seal. The hose itself is usually fine; only the tiny retaining clip has failed. Dyson does not sell this clip as a standalone part. The only official replacement is the full internal hose assembly (920682-01) at $20–40.
